Tami has helped us on numerous projects including four very complex online surveys requiring login modules, complicated skip patterns, database support for both FileMaker Pro and MySQL, and an exquisite attention to detail!

When we first started working with Tami, she created the entire survey system for us, but in later iterations, was happy to train me how to do a large part of the work. Not only did she save Chapin Hall both time and money, but our end users as well. In our most recent project, the creation of an online version of a paper data collection tool, the online version saved the users almost four hours of data entry time over the paper version, allowing the users to answer only the questions pertinent to their case, rather than having to read every question on a 175 page document.

If I had tried to create our first survey on my own, it would have taken me at least 10 times longer and would not have been as flexible. The system that Tami created for our first survey allowed us great flexibility in creating subsequent surveys and data collection tools. Tami has also greatly increased my skill set by showing me how to take over parts of the projects. Going forward, I have a much better idea of what I can tackle on my own, and what makes sense to send over to her to create or complete.

Tami has been, in several situations, my only source of technical support in my job, and has never let me down. She's always cheerful, helpful, adaptable to the many changes necessary, and always willing to listen to a drawn out explanation of what _this_ instrument needs to do. This has been an amazing working relationship and one I value.

In 2005, FIRST needed to upgrade its FileMaker database system to the latest generation. Due to changes in the architecture of FileMaker, this meant that a number of web-based applications, which we ran directly from FileMaker, would no longer work. The decision was made to port the web applications to Lasso, which would be able to run the existing code with minimal conversion effort, yet communicate with the updated FileMaker back-end. Recognizing our lack on in-house expertise with Lasso, I took a multi-day training course taught by Tami Williams of Creative Computing.

Tami is a good communicator and was able to bring myself and others present up to speed on Lasso with a minimum of confusion.

Later that year, recognizing the need to scale up our Lasso development capabilities, we contacted Creative Computing. This time, we hired them on a contract basis to perform a ground up re-write of our most important web-based application, which registers teams for the FIRST Robotics Competition and brings in millions of dollars per year in registration fees. The experience was a delight, as they listened to our needs, integrated requirements from a diverse group of stakeholders, proposed solutions, and developed a clean and easily maintained solution.

The importance of this last fact can't be understated. Anyone can deliver code. Some can make it work. Really good developers deliver code that not only works, but also is well structured so that it saves you money in the future. This is borne out by the fact that we continue to use the same code base as we approach our upcoming 2010 season, and have re-used it as the basis for team registration systems for two of our other programs as well.

Since 2005, we have utilized Creative Computing to supplement our in-house development capabilities as more and more business functions are web-enabled. Additionally, we utilized their services in 2006 to help us migrate our web-applications to a MySQL-based back-end, which provides greater scalability.

For the MySQL conversion, Creative Computing helped us identify an appropriate server architecture, configured MySQL to run on the servers, taught us the basics of MySQL server administration, performed the necessary conversion work on the Lasso code, and did performance testing and remote monitoring on the servers to insure adequate response during peak loads. Again, they did a top-notch job.

Whether your needs are with FileMaker, Lasso, or MySQL, I cannot recommend Creative Computing highly enough. They are smart, efficient, flexible, and a pleasure to work with.

Looking back over the projects I've done with Tami Williams, I can heartily recommend her as a first-rate developer and valued collaborator.

The new application was a lifesaver for the Convergence 2004 Denver Conference held this past summer. To give you an idea of how much time we saved in 2004 working with the software you developed as compared to prior conferencesin 2002 it took an average of 20 minutes for each data entry personnel to enter one conference delegate and print the confirmation letter. In 2004 the process was done in less than five minutes. This was a huge savings in personnel costs and time. Data entry and confirmation take so much less time that we could focus more on the marketing and planning aspects of our conference. In addition to improving the registration and confirmation process the program was equally wonderful in helping us with only 2 employees (1 full-time and 1 part-time) to manage:
  • over 200 events
  • over 1,800 registrations
  • over 120 instructors
  • over 150 vendors
  • over 8,000 contact numbers
  • over 4,000 addresses
  • over 1,800 name badges
  • over 18,000 tickets
  • over 1,700 financial transactions
  • over 1,500 pieces of correspondence
On site the program worked like a charm. We always have people coming to us at the last minute at the conference saying "I lost my schedule", or asking to register, or asking us to locate someone. We were able to answer all the questions, right then and there.

As with any new system/Web site we had bugs/fixes and changes but due to the strength of the overall data structure and design these were completed without a glitch.
